Mayan culture Art
Mexico is a wonderful place for the lovers of culture, traditions and customs, and in your vacation to Cancun you will get to know a little bit more about the Mayan Culture: their art, dance and architecture.
Mayan Culture found in Cancun
The Mayan civilization spread from the southern Mexican states down to the northern Central American nations including of course the state of Quintana Roo. Some people comment that Cancun was created much later and has no Mayan history, but they would be wrong.
Mayan art is intricate, beautiful and so detailed you could look at it for hours and still find something new each time. The Mayans were very creative when it came to using different materials so paintings and drawings can be found as carvings in wood, stone and clay as well as moulded figures.
Shopping for souvenirs in Cancun is easy and fun with flea markets in abundance depicting Mayan symbols, figures and drawings.
Native Maya Dance
The Mayans expressed themselves and their civilization through dance and was used for religious ceremonies, giving thanks and honouring the dead. The music is fast, colorful and will make you want to join in.
A lot of Cancun hotels offer a Mexican theme evening and a couple of local companies offer a complete show full of Mayan dancing and culture. It is thought that the dancers used mind techniques to get into a trance state and communicate with the other world.
